Lara King. Another Lfest performer this year and winner of Funny Women last year. Doing music first she used to talk between the songs and then started combining the two. Her hilarious sayings about her own life will make you chuckle, her beautiful songs will make you sway and the bits in between will make you want to see her again and again.
If you check out her site you will see her hilarious video, shit lesbians say to older lesbians which includes ‘You’re vintage, and that’s totally hip,’ and ‘I can’t believe she’s in Diva, she’s like..32.’ She performs in a lot of venues including recently the Old Vic Tunnels (under the Waterloo station, yes I’m for real) and soon the babes in the woods, the creativity in the woods in Kent. If you’re up in the Fringe this year then check this lady out and you won’t be disappointed. Here is a quick fire with the lady herself about her show and her very valuable advice.
How is ‘People Pleaser’, your Edinburgh coming along?
I’m delighted with the response I just got at my first preview. I actually had to cut the show short as I over ran so I’m happy with that. It means I’ve got to edit stuff out rather than write more material!!
What can people expect from it?
To be pleased I hope! A five star performance obviously, with sharp humour, uplifting melodies, lyrical wordsmithery and very clever silliness
How have things changed since winning Funny Women?
Now I have a nice trophy on my mantlepiece. Winning was certainly a big confidence boost. It’s kind of validated me as a comedienne, to myself if no one else
How did you get into comedy?
I slipped on a banana skin
How would you describe your comedy?
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
I get paid for mucking about
What would you say to any women wanting to be stand up?
